Left Pinky Finger

This finger can symbolize one’s marital status or mafia ties. According to a famous 19th century tradition, two rings worn on the left pinky finger symbolized that the man was married. The bottom ring, in this case, was usually a wedding band stacked by a signet ring above. On the other hand, influenced by television shows of the crime genre, wearing a ring on this finger can denote the wearer’s connections to the criminal world. 

Right Pinky Finger
Simple rings made up of bands of metals like silver, iron and steel are commonly worn on this finger and are indicative of a profession or graduation degree in a specific field say, engineering. Rings on the right pinky finger also represent confidence in business and reflect the fact that the right hand is the dominant hand for the majority of the population. 

Left Ring Finger
This finger is associated with the heart and affection. In ancient times, it was believed a vein called Vena Amoris (“vein of love”) connected this finger directly to the heart. It may represent different facets of a relationship: marital status, betrothal, chastity or promise. Wedding rings are worn on the left ring finger to symbolize the wearer’s commitment to their marriage. Engagement rings are also worn on this finger to show the wearer is about to get married. People practicing abstinence may also wear chastity rings on this finger. Couples intending to get engaged may wear promise rings on the left ring finger. 

Right Ring Finger
In many cultures, the right ring finger symbolizes love and trust. In countries including Germany, Russia and India, wedding and engagement rings are worn on the right ring finger. This finger can also convey self-love and is often used for rings that celebrate a milestone or accomplishment.

Left and Right Middle Finger 
These fingers are associated with our purpose in life and our identity. When adorned by a ring carrying meaning, they, being central and the tallest become a symbol of power and capability. A ring worn on either of these fingers also makes a statement as it catches the attention of the viewer at the first glimpse, because of the fingers’ central position. 

Left Index Finger
Dramatic and statement rings such as cocktail rings made up of large gemstones are usually worn on this finger as adornment. Kings, priests and other powerful ancient figures would wear rings on this finger to assert dominance and establish hierarchical authority. This finger represents leadership and ambition. 

Right Index Finger
Unlike other cultures, in traditional Jewish marriages the wedding ring is worn on the right index finger rather than on either of the ring fingers. The right index finger is considered closest to the heart. The index finger of the usually dominant hand is also used the most and so, is an ideal place for a ring to be seen easily. 


Left and Right Thumb
The thumb is the only independent finger separated from the rest and probably the strongest as well. It communicates strength and freedom of thought. People often prefer to wear broad and bulky rings on their thumbs. The thumbs are also representative of logic and willpower.
